Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. “What Accreditations does Paragon Scentific have?"

Paragon Scientific Limited holds dual accreditation status under The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to international standards of ISO 17025 and ISO 17034. Our dual ISO 17034 / ISO 17025 accreditations under UKAS provide unprecedented quality assurance on a global scale and allows us to produce what is known as the “Gold Standard” of Certified Reference Materials and Calibration  Standards.

You can find out more information about our Accreditations here.

 2. “What is the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS)?”

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the sole national accreditation body recognised by the UK Government for certification and conformity to internationally agreed standards for testing, calibration and inspection.

UKAS is a signatory to International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) which is the international body for promoting cooperation between the various inspection body accreditation schemes that operate throughout the world. Other signatories include, but are not limited to, A2LA (USA), COFRAC (France), Dakks (Germany) and JAB (Japan).

ISO 17025 / ISO 17034 accreditation denotes competence for customers to make an informed and confident choice in the procurement process. The UKAS mark ensures buyers have peace of mind. ILAC also bridges international barriers, making trade easier, especially in new growth markets.

 3. What is ISO 17025?”

ISO 17025 is a recognised international standard for competence to carry out testing and calibrations to the standard indicated by international test method protocol or calibration procedures. This requires accredited facilities to comply with all the requirements detailed within the varied sections of the standard.

These include: assuring quality of test and calibration results, technical competence of staff employed, environmental conditions and procurement. ISO/IEC 17025 is applicable to laboratories that operate in a multitude of business sectors, including automotive, cosmetics, microelectronics, petro-chemical, pharmaceutical and power generation.

4. “What is ISO 17034?”

ISO 17034 provides the highest level of Quality Assurance, confirms the expertise of the manufacturer, the integrity of the production systems and the reliability of the Certified Reference Materials that it produces. Combined with our ISO 17025 accreditation, the highest level of quality assurance is achieved through ISO 17025 / ISO 17034 accreditations. This is commonly referred to as ‘The Gold Standard’ in the production of Certified Reference Materials.

You can find out more information about our Accreditations here.

 5. “Paragon Scientific used to be ISO Guide 34. Why has this changed to ISO 17034?”

Our accreditation for competence as a Reference Material Producer has historically been accredited to ISO Guide 34, although a new standard, ISO 17034, was published in November 2016 to replace it. A 3-Year period was internationally agreed to allow organisations accredited to ISO Guide 34 to make any necessary changes to their systems and for accreditation to be transferred to the new standard. The deadline set by UKAS for migration to ISO 17034 is November 2019.

We completed the migration as soon as possible to ensure our customers have the confidence we demonstrate technical competence to the latest international standards.

Our dual UKAS accreditation to ISO 17025 and ISO 17034 provides a level of confidence and assurance that international guidelines are followed in the production, labelling, and assignment of property values to materials, including stability and homogeneity determinations.

 6. “Our methods say we must use ISO Guide 34 products. Can we still buy from Paragon?”

Yes, you can. Our products still meet or exceed the requirements of ISO Guide 34, and now meet the higher requirements of ISO/IEC 17034:2016.

7. Some of your products still reference ISO Guide 34, are they still ok to use?”

Yes, they are.  It will take a short time for us to update our calibration certificates, labels and website, but you can be assured that the products are still produced to the high standards you have come to expect from Paragon Scientific.

8. “Why should we use a producer accredited to ISO 17034?”

Key benefits include:
